The Collection: Authentic Sheepskin Rugs, Artfully Composed
Wol Society’s handcrafted sheepskin rugs are available as custom commissions, ready-to-ship pieces, or oversized statement rugs. Artist Sabine Maes brings her painter’s eye to the composition of every one-of-a-kind piece, working with carefully curated materials to create unique, functional objets d’art.
Wol Society rugs appeal to designers and homeowners who value slow design, and the uniqueness of pieces handmade by artisans. Every ready-to-ship, oversized, and custom piece is thoughtfully and personally composed by Sabine.
The Custom Commission Process
When a specific space calls for a very specific sheepskin rug, we’ll happily collaborate to create a custom piece.
Typically, the process begins when a designer reaches out to us after having looked through the Wol Society’s collection. They’ve found an existing rug that is nearly perfect for a current project, but need it created in a particular size.
The designer shares measurements to create a custom rug that’s sized in tandem and balanced with the rest of their design. We discuss their preferences around color and texture, referring back to any existing Wol Society rugs they’ve chosen as inspiration, with the understanding that rugs are impossible to replicate because of differences in the natural tones and textures of the materials.
Sabine then begins composing the rug in her atelier: laying out pelts, experimenting with placement, assessing the work from every angle, and adjusting until the piece feels complete. Photographs are sent to the client for approval, and if requested, edits are made. The composed rug is then sewn together by craftspeople in Belgium and shipped directly to the client. It takes approximately four weeks to complete a custom rug, from the time the invoice is paid.
Whether you’re browsing the Curated by Sabine collection for ready-to-ship rugs, searching for oversized statement rugs, or commissioning a custom sheepskin rug, Wol Society has something you’ll love. Reach out with questions or to discuss a custom order.
